It’s been quite a long time coming, but I’m happy / excited / nervous to officially announce the site relaunch of London, Like the City! This is a reaaaaally big deal to me because…I did it all from scratch, all on my own! From the transfer to being self-hosted, building the entire site design and layout, and the creation of all graphics, it’s been one long, fun, and frustrating ride.
There are still a few small-to-moderate sized tweaks and adjustments to be made here and there (seems like a never-ending process!), but I’ve finally gotten the blog to a point that I’m proud of and comfortable with.
I’ve always had a specific vision in mind for how I wanted the site to look, and when I couldn’t find any templates or design layouts that matched this image well enough, I decided I would just have to build it myself. Never mind that I
have had zero experience with web design or coding (outside of adding sparkles and awkward slideshows to MySpace, that is). This decision has meant a lot more time, work, and frustration than I ever could have imagined, but seeing my vision come to life and learning valuable new (read: resume) skills along the way has been totally worth it.
I’ve learned so much in the process, and have quite a few online tutorials and help forums to thank for that. I hope to share some of these tips and tricks with you in the coming weeks so that I can make the process just a little bit easier for those of you interested in doing the same. It’s not a decision to take lightly, but if you
are a perfectionist want a specific look for your blog and are ready to learn and put in the work, it will be so worth it.
So welcome to the new site, and stay tuned for just a few more design updates! I’m sooo looking forward to blogging on a prettier site and having more time to focus on content rather than behind the scenes stuff.
Also, a big huge thank you to those family, friends, and early followers that gave me the love and encouragement and support and smiles and surprise texts and comments I needed to keep blogging away before I was even confident with how it all looked. You know who you are, and I love you!
