Almost Healthy Robin Egg Shake

When it comes to healthy shakes, I never quite know where to draw the line between smoothie and shake. Is it the creaminess? The chocolatey-ness? Or just that je ne sais quoi indulgent feeling? Maybe calling it a smoothie-shake would be most appropriate.

Regardless, it’s almost Easter, which means candy is everywhere and some is going to end up in your house. I used to loooove Robin Eggs- and I still do like them, obviously- but these days I tend to get a sugar-induced headache after eating just two. Having a handful to spare, I thought why not just blend them up into what would be an otherwise healthy “shake”?!

For those of you that are already accustomed to healthy smoothie-shakes, you’ll love this. It’s essentially a healthified chocolate malt shake. On the other hand, if you’re not regularly blending bananas/almond milk/dates and calling it a “shake”, then you’ll want to add some Greek or frozen yogurt to help creamify. Regardless, I think you’ll love it.

Almost Healthy Robins Egg Shake
INGREDIENTS
1 banana
3/4 cup almond milk (or milk of choice)
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 tablespoon protein powder
2 dates, pitted
Small handful of Robin Egg candy or malt balls
Optional: Greek yogurt or frozen yogurt, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS:

Add all ingredients to blender and blend away until consistency is smooth and combined. (I personally like to leave small chunks of date and chocolate…makes it more fun!) Garnish with a crushed Robin Egg.
