Good Eats: Sea & Smoke

Last week I was invited to meet up with a fun group of ladies for a night of cocktails, bites, and (hilarious) conversation at Matt Gordon’s Del Mar Restaurant, Sea & Smoke. We enjoyed a special tasting menu and the entire night was incredible from start to finish! That said, I wouldn’t expect anything less coming from the chef of one of my favorite Encinitas restaurants- Solace & The Moonlight Lounge.

The American brasserie has a modern-rustic vibe with a sophisticated ambiance. We started the night sampling a few drinks in the lounge; I ordered a refreshing Cuke Mule and tried two of their newest cocktails, my favorite being the “Slutty Negroni”. Between sips I managed to nibble on the Apple & Fig Tartine with creamy fontina cheese- mmmmmm!

We then settled into a table nestled between olive trees and string lights on the open-air patio to buckle down for the food. Sea & Smoke has a surf and turf menu concept (perfect for Del Mar, haha!) with really unique dishes and a focus on high quality, locally sourced ingredients. More wine was poured and out came the appetizers: first Oysters Del Mar and Charred Octopus, then Cauliflower Cheese Dip and Vanilla Scented Beets! I loved everything, but have to say the octopus and cauliflower dip were my favorites. And of course, the signature yummy biscuits also made an appearance.

It started to get dark as the Wood Fired Meats & Seafood round came, so I ditched my phone and enjoyed eating by candlelight. Next up was Smoked Lemon and Salt Crusted Salmon, Braised Jidori Chicken, and Niman Ranch Braised Lamb Shoulder. I only tried the salmon and chicken, but of course the salmon was my favorite. One of the dishes also came with a polenta mash….so good!!

Just when we were absolutely stuffed, it was time to find more room because out came the desserts: Olive Oil Cake with fresh fruit and Chocolate Pot de Creme. These are just two items from their new dessert menu that just launched!

Needless to say, it was an awesome night and I seriously can’t wait to go back! They’ve got happy hour every day, live music on Wednesdays, and a cinnamon roll brunch bar (with gluten free options too!). Who’s comin’ with?!
