Fave Beauty Finds

It’s been a minute since I last shared some of my favorite recent beauty finds. Let’s do this!

fave beauty finds

St. Tropez Tanning Essentials Self Tan Bronzing Lotion Face– The best self-tanner for your face! Not only gives you a natural looking glow, but is paraben-free and specially formulated for the face so it doesn’t clog pores or irritate skin.

c. Booth Honey Almond Firming Body Lotion– Free of parabens, sulfates, mineral oil or petrolatum, this natural moisturizer is ultra light and absorbs quickly for a grease-free finish. I love the subtly sweet scent and how this luxurious, antioxidant-rich lotion drenches skin in moisture, helping to reignite a firmer, more toned appearance…it’s legit!

Marc Anthony True Professional Dream Waves Beach Spray– This delicious, creamy coconut-ness smells exactly like surfboard wax. Intoxicating! And addicting. Far from your average salt spray, it transforms even the straightest hair into soft, flowing, loose waves, adding body and texture. Hydrolyzed Silk and Provitamin B5 protect while adding moisture and shine.

Origins Clear Improvement(TM) Active Charcoal Mask To Clear Pores– Formulated without Parabens, Sulfates or Phthalates, activated charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers. White China clay absorbs environmental toxins, and lecithin dissolves impurities. I can feel the mask tingling and working and notice an immediate difference in my skin- it draws junk up to the surface of the skin to speed up the healing process. I’ve had great results using this once a week.

Mario Badescu Anti Acne Serum–  This botanical blend of pore-decongesting ingredients is a must-have for acne-prone and problem skin types to keep ugly breakouts from happening. Salicylic acid formula helps dissolve dead skin cells and excess oil to improve the clarity of your skin.

One Love Organics® My New Best Friend Skin Shammy– These dirt-trapping microfiber cloths are super soft and meet dermatologists’ standards for gentle effectiveness. They give your skin the daily deep cleanse it craves while cutting down on the amount of product you need to use. Love them!

Waxelene All Natural Petroleum Jelly Alternative– Made of only four natural & organic ingredients, it’s deeply moisturizing with beeswax, soy oil, vitamin E oil and a splash of delicious rosemary oil. Petroleum is terrible for the body, so I was thrilled to finally try this natural alternative! It’s saved my sunburnt, lightly cracked lips overnight more than once this summer!

bare soaps charcoal

And finally my favorite favorite, bare soaps! 100% natural and made “with love, for love”. Co-founders Clare and Jessie are two kick-ass girls who strive to provide an affordable luxury for anyone who is seeking an all natural alternative to the commercial “soaps”. These artisan soaps are handmade with care, eco-friendly, and socially conscious! The packaging is plantable (awesome, right?!) and 20% of proceeds are invested in one village in Uganda to help them become self sustainable (bare stands for Bringing Antiseptic Resources to Everyone), so there’s a dual purpose to the soap!

I loved all four that I tried, including Cupid’s Love (rose clay & lavender- calming and relaxing) and Sunkissed (calendula petals & lavender, great for reducing inflammation, anxiety and preventing muscle spasms), but my two personal favorites are The Sunshine Bar (fresh cut orange scent with anti-bacterial turmeric and poppy seeds for exfoliation) and Starry Night (made with activated charcoal and amazing at removing make up!). Pick up a sample pack for yourself and stock up for eco-friendly gifts that really make a difference!

Lorna Jane NOURISH- The Fit Woman’s Cookbook

I am so excited to have received an advance copy of Lorna Jane’s gorgeous new book, Nourish: The Fit Woman’s Cookbook, which is now available for pre-order! In line with the entire Lorna Jane philosophy, the book encourages you to Move your body every day, Nourish your body with healthy delicious food, and Believe anything is possible if you are willing to work for it.

“Never forget you are talented, beautiful, and simple the best at being you.”

The pages are brimming with tempting recipes, inspirational quotes, absolutely beautiful images, and tips & guidelines for living a healthy, active life. It’s like a peek into Lorna Jane’s personal life, which she makes so welcoming and approachable. Along with a useful guide to eating seasonally, she highlights why you need to stop dieting and how to fuel your body to get the most out of life.

“This one day cannot be exchanged, replaced or refunded. Make the most of it- live active.”

Of course I earmarked a ton of recipes, but the two that intrigued me most to try right away were the lemony carrot dip and berry beauty tonic. (I’m down to try almost anything with the words tonic or elixir!). Fortunately I get to share these recipes (and quotes!) with you today, because they’re just too good not to!

“Everyone deserves to feel energized, vibrant and full of life.”

First up, the Beauty Tonic. All of the tonics and elixirs are loaded with concentrated vitamins and nutrients and designed to wake you up with an instant boost of whatever you need on each particular day. This berry one was delicious and filling (thanks to the chia), so I’m excited to try out the others- namely Immunity, Happiness and Balance.

Beauty Tonic, makes two
Mash ½ cup thawed frozen mixed berries in a small bowl with a fork. Stir in ¼ cup (60ml) freshly squeezed orange juice and 1 tablespoon white chia seeds. Pour mixture into serving glasses or bottles. Stand 30 minutes or until thickened before serving.

The Lemon Thyme Carrot Dip could not have been easier to make and turned out the perfect consistency. With some juicy tomatoes and fresh cucumber spears, it’s the perfect refreshing snack for a hot summer afternoon! I whipped it up in a few minutes before heading out the door for the beach.

Lemon Thyme Carrot Dip, makes 1½ cups
3 medium carrots, chopped coarsely
2 cloves garlic, peeled
4 sprigs fresh thyme
2-inch strip lemon rind
1 tablespoon lemon juice

  1. Cook carrot with garlic, thyme and rind in a small saucepan of boiling water about 15 minutes or until carrot is tender. Drain. Discard thyme and rind.
  2. Blend or process carrot and garlic with juice until smooth; season to taste. Sprinkle with 2 teaspoons of chopped pistachios if you lilke. Serve with vegetable sticks or seed crackers.

Hurraw! for Vegan Lip Balm (Plus a GIVEAWAY!)

Alright guys, it’s time to admit that I’ve become a bit of a lip balm snob. Ever since I found Hurraw!’s nourishing vegan lip balms on the search for a petroleum free remedy for my never-ending chapped winter lips, I now have at least two of these slender (BPA free & recyclable!) sticks with me at all times.

Hurraw! Balms are handcrafted and individually poured with premium organic, vegan and raw ingredients. The founder, Corrie- a fellow UCSD grad!- started Hurraw! on a mission to create the perfect balm. And I’ve gotta say, the result is beyond perfect! The texture is amazing- not too slippery, not too sticky, not at all grainy, and the flavors are seriously rad! I didn’t know it was possible to be so obsessed with a lip balm, but here I am.

Committed to ensuring the quality and integrity of the product, Hurraw! sources honest, fair trade, organic, vegan and raw ingredients from reputable suppliers. Each purchase supports legit fair trade, organic farmers and suppliers here in the States and around the World.

Similar to steeping a good cup of tea, they infuse oils with a variety of seeds, pods, fruit zests, barks and roots for flavor and natural color. It’s not a quick process, but that’s what makes those awesome flavors. Chai Tea, Chocolate, Grapefruit Ginger Eucalyptus, anyone? Maybe some Coconut Mint Lemongrass? My personal favorite is the Green Tea– refreshing, but also creamy and reminiscent of matcha. And I can’t fall asleep without a swipe of Moon Balm every night, a dreamy vanilla blue chamomile flavor. Yuuum. Hurraw! is like a flashback to the old LipSmacker days, except that these are way, way better. (That’s coming from a girl who had an obsessive Bonne Bell collection, and made her dad create two wooden display stands to house them all in to enter the collection in a contest at the fair. Yeah, I did weird things).

Now that summer is here, my favorite flavors of the moment are Grapefruit and Tinted Black Cherry. Both are so fruity and refreshing, and of course have you covered with natural SPF 15! What’s even better is that they don’t melt. I took a few to Arizona with me in 100+ degree weather, and they were such champs!

So I already told you the best part, but here is the best best part: Hurraw! is sponsoring a giveaway for you guys. FIVE (yep, FIVE) lucky peeps will each win a 3-pack of Hurraw! lip balms, flavor of choice! So enter below, and head over to Hurraw! to scope out your new favorite flavors.

Flashtats x Halfsies Blog

flashtats with halfsies blog and holly daze photos

I was recently invited to join the talented ladies of Halfsies and Holly Daze Photos for a fun beach photoshoot featuring Flash Tattoos! I had been admiring these metallic temporary tattoos for a while now and was so excited to try them out. We jumped out of the van at Sunset Beach right at golden hour and played models for a bit before grabbing tacos and gigantic margaritas. Holly made it really easy giving us directions and a crash course on how to pose as flattering as possible while Eryn ran around pumping the tunes. Total success and such a fun evening with mah girls!

May Beauty Finds and Faves

May Beauty Faves

Mario Badescu Acne Starter Kit – Because acne. But really, break-outs are so annoying. I found this brand while looking for something with sulfur in it. It works so well that I ended up buying other Mario Badescu cleansers and masks and am officially obsessed! All decently priced too.

Cate McNabb Cosmetics– I’m loving Cate McNabb’s natural, paraben and cruelty free makeup! The colors are so bold and highly pigmented, especially for being mineral-based. The Eyeshadow in Slate and Gel Liner in Black are my favorite for every day wear, but their lip lacquers are also gorgeous and long-lasting…perfect for a night out or a special occasion.

SheaMoisture Coconut Hibiscus Dry Oil Mist– Super natural, smells delicious, absorbs easily. I use right after the shower to lock in moisture. Because my legs are like alligators I also follow up with lotion (when I’m not feeling lazy), but that’s just me.

Binchotan Charcoal Toothbrush– Activated charcoal is blended into the bristles of this brush. So weird right?! It tastes normal though. I do get a super deep clean feeling with it, but can’t really speak to the whitening factor because I used some white strips recently!

Hurraw! Balm– I looove the smooth texture of Hurraw! lip balms, and this creamy matcha-like Green Tea is one of my absolute favorite flavors.

Briogeo Deep Conditioning Mask– After coloring and lightening up my hair last weekend (which I’m still feeling iffy about…) this mask is nursing it back to its former days of health.

Aveda Tourmaline Charged Radiance– Like a mini self-microdermabrasion! I was told to use this scrub 2x a week, and put my favorite mask on right after while the pores are open and clean (smart!). The tourmaline crystals brighten up your face and are so fine (especially compared to other harsh scrubs) it actually feels really good.

Butter London Polish in Molly-Coddled – I can’t seem to get over lavender (or baby blue) nails lately. Send help.
